Answer God’s Call
Devotional #2
February 2, 2023
Scriptures:
Matthew 22:11-14 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
Devotion:
There were many times in my life, I felt God pulling at my heart. In moments when I decided to do life my way and didn’t pray as much he would listen and when I came running back he would comfort me. The beautiful thing about God is no matter what I did he always called me back home.
We see the same nature of God in the parable of the wedding banquet. The King sent out many invitations to his son’s wedding. Some people ignored the invitation (even when enticed with a feast) and others came but did not dress in the clothes given and in return were thrown out of the wedding. The key though is although God is a very persistent God who will extend many invitations, it is up to us to answer the call.
The scripture says it like this “many are called but few are chosen”, meaning that God will call many people but only a few will answer. The question I want you to ask yourself today is, have I answered God’s call for my life or am I the person at the “wedding” who did not use what I was given?!
Answering God’s call goes beyond going to church, praying before we eat, giving to the homeless. Although those things are good, it requires constant submission, obedience and stepping outside of our comfort zone.
It means saying yes when we want to say no. It means going live on Facebook when we are shy and nervous. You may have moments of self doubt or uncertainty but just like the man at the wedding, God will equip you with everything that you need; you just have to “answer the call”!
