Be Examples of Christ

Scriptures: 

Philippians 3:17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.

Devotion: 

When you were young did you have a role model or a person you wanted to be like?? I laugh every time my mom tells this story about how I responded to the question, ``What do you want to be when you grow up?”. I was 5 years old, in a group with other kids and they all responded with professions like “doctor” or a “firefighter” and my response was “my mommy”. 

We all have people who we aspire to be like. It could be because of their influence, their ability to be themselves or because of their passions.

In Philippians 3:17 Paul states that we should be and do the same for others. Be a model that they can follow but also that we should look to other models. 

Bet you didn’t think you were someone’s role model. The answer is, you are!

There are people who aspire to be like you, even if they never say a word. I remember getting a message one day from a Facebook friend telling me that she really enjoyed my teaching. I had no idea she even watched them! She never commented, she never liked my posts but she watched. 

There are people watching you!

This is why it is important that we are examples of Christ and model our lives to reflect the way Christ lived. Not only in the way that he served and taught the people but the way he prayed, and walked with humility. As Paul said, there are many who live as enemies to the cross, but if we focus on God, those who follow us will follow him.
